Believe it or not, THE Donald Trump actually drew the 1991/92 League Cup quarter finals (then known as the Rumbelows Cup) from the top of Trump Tower. He’s probably the last person you would have guessed, but how did the now most powerful man in the world come to draw the English League Cup?

Trump was a prominent businessman in the early 90’s, he was a household name in the USA and he even made a cameo in the Christmas favourite film, Home Alone.

The draw was going to be made live from New York City on the Saint and Greavsie show, their first choice was Robert De Niro, but he was too busy to make the draw, they then contacted their second option, Donald Trump. He didn’t have any knowledge on the game, but he was a man who never missed an opportunity to get his face into the public domain.

Watch as Donald Trump makes the League Cup draw:

Jimmy Greaves and Ian St John made the ascent up the 58th floors to the top of the Trump Tower. Greaves was in charge of the home teams whilst Trump pulled out the away teams. Unbeknown to him, Trump pulled out a juggernaut of a clash, he pulled out then League leaders, Leeds United against bitter rivals and current European Cup Winners Cup champions, Manchester United. Both of the teams were fighting for the League title, that Leeds eventually won, but Trump gave the arch enemies a chance to draw battle once more.

Manchester United ran out winners at Elland Road, beating Leeds United by 3 goals to 1 with goals from Clayton Blackmore, Andrei Kanchelskis and Ryan Giggs. So there we have it, the most powerful man in the world once drew the English League Cup, you learn something new everyday, don’t you?
